Throughout this series of posts, I’ll discuss the process I went through when I outsourced my first project and share some advice.
Building a process for your first meeting
Creating a Checklist
I’ve put together a short list for you to work from through your first meeting. The items on this list should cover all your inputs with your first meeting like sending the design brief and outputs like an itemised quote (which you should print off or flag in your inbox for easy reference).
Outline and agree what they consider a bug and what will be fixed for free or what will require more hours.
Outline the best method of communication, who will be your main point of contact and how often contact will be.
The checklist will ensure you cover everything you want in order to make an informed decision about the process going forward.
Get a confirmation on what has been agreed and set a deadline. This way everyone is on the same page at the same time.

The best laid plans…
Going through these steps will never guarantee a smooth process. Sometimes life just gets in the way, and no one’s perfect. Just make sure you learn from the mistakes and improve the process next time. Always be prepared for and aware of issues that may arise that could derail your project’s development.
Good luck on your projects!
